Artist's statement

Using materials that relate to travel and adventure, my work explores the significance of these objects and the way in which they can represent a specific place or time in someones life, yet be meaningless to someone else.

In my more recent work, I have used maps to illustrate the notion of escape from everyday life,
by deconstructing the map thus destroying it's primary purpose, but using it's exquisite detail as decoration within the work. I want people to think about their past adventures, to look at the old postcards, luggage tags and maps and feel a sense of that place again.

To achieve the visual aspect of my work, I combine expressive use of paint with precise paper-cutting techniques.
